Kidney transplant OPD launched at Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) in Peshawar has officially launched an outpatient department (OPD) dedicated to kidney transplants, marking a significant advancement in healthcare services in the region.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Health Advisor, Ehtesham Ali, who participated as the chief guest. Addressing the occasion, the Health Advisor highlighted that the provincial government is actively working to improve public healthcare across the province. He announced the allocation of funds for the establishment of a separate Transplant Tower at KTH, aimed at further enhancing transplant services under one roof. EhteshaAli also revealed that the government is setting up dialysis units in various District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals, including those in Swat, Chitral, Dir, and Hazara, to provide better access to treatment for patients suffering from kidney-related ailments. These services will be integrated with the Sehat Card scheme, allowing eligible citizens to receive medical care at no cost.

He stated that efforts are underway to upgrade healthcare facilities in the southern districts of the province, bringing them up to the same standard as those in Peshawar. Plans are also being made to introduce cardiology services in remote areas shortly to further strengthen the healthcare network throughout the region. Addressing broader administrative and political matters, the Health Advisor noted that the provincial budget was presented with a surplus for the first time, demonstrating financial discipline and effective governance. He added that new administrative appointments would soon be made in Swabi and assured the public that no district would be neglected in development initiatives.

Commenting on the current political situation, Ehtesham Ali emphasised that the provincial government faces no immediate political threats. He acknowledged the opposition’s democratic right to protest but affirmed that the government would continue to operate strictly by the law. This development is seen as a major step toward equitable and accessible healthcare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aligning with the government’s broader vision of providing quality medical services to every corner of the province.
