PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved a special security fund of Rs1.095 billion in response to escalating militant violence, terrorist attacks, and abductions targeting government officials across its southern and merged districts.

Sources told a local news channel that commissioners, deputy commissioners, and district police officers from Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and the merged districts — including Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North and South Waziristan, Mohmand, and Bajaur — had requested financial support to address pressing security challenges.

The proposal, jointly submitted by the Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) and the Home Department, was approved during a recent KP cabinet meeting following detailed discussions.

Of the approved amount, Rs340 million has been allocated to district administrations and Rs755 million to the police. Specifically, Rs50 million is designated for commissioners, Rs130 million for deputy commissioners in settled districts, and Rs160 million for DCs in merged areas. On the policing side, Rs525 million will go to settled districts, while Rs230 million is earmarked for merged districts to enhance law and order.

The approval comes amid a deteriorating security landscape in KP. According to provincial police data, 152 people — including security personnel and civilians — have lost their lives and 302 have been injured in militant attacks so far this year. Bannu, Khyber, and North Waziristan remain among the most affected regions.
