KP reports second polio case of 2025, tally reaches 7 across country

PESHAWAR: The Health Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has reported second polio case in the province, taking the total numbers of cases to seven in the country this year.

As per reports, the polio virus has been confirmed in an 11-year-old child in Manjakot, Union Council of Torghar Tehsil, Torghar district. The National Institute of Health confirmed polio in the affected child.

The first polio case of this year was reported from DI Khan in January.

It should be noted that the number of polio cases across the country this year has reached 7, 4 from Sindh, 2 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while one case has been reported from Punjab.

Last year Pakistan has recorded 74 polio cases, 27 from Balochistan, 23 from Sindh, 22 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one from Punjab province.

It is worthy to be mentioned here, last month the World Health Organization (WHO) has extended travel restrictions on Pakistan for three months. This decision was taken after mounting evidence that Pakistan and Afghanistan continue to fuel the international spread of the poliovirus.
