KP UCC calls Jirga after Eid over financial straits in universities

Bannu university announces temporary closure amid security concerns

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Coordination Council (KPUCC) has decided to hold a higher education Jirga under the auspices of PEOTA immediately after Eid over financial straits in KP universities.

In which people of different schools of thought, leaders of political parties, members of the government and opposition, media representatives and university administrations would be invited.

The aim of holding the Jirga is to highlight the financial problems faced by the universities of the province and pave the way for concrete steps to solve them.

The council has demanded that like other provinces, appropriate funds be allocated in the budget for the universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so that they can overcome the financial crisis.

The council has especially stressed ensuring fair distribution of funds allocated in the budget for serving and retired employees of the University of Peshawar, University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, Islamia College University Peshawar and other universities.

This move aims to enable timely payment of pensions to retired employees so that they can be protected from financial difficulties.

The Universities Coordination Council has also decided to send a letter to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and relevant institutions to highlight these issues. The council participants hope that the implementation of these resolutions will resolve the issues facing the universities of the province and improve the quality of education.
