Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called for a judicial probe into the Kohistan financial scandal.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman held a press conference in Peshawar on Sunday. During the conference, he stated that the revelations made by the provincial assembly speaker have cast doubt on the government’s performance. He emphasised that corruption cannot be eliminated until the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) comes to power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In response to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) protest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed that the protest was not genuinely against corruption; rather, it was a reaction to the PPP’s own record of corruption.
He also rejected the Child Marriage Act, asserting that the foundation of marriage in Islam is based on puberty, not age. The JUI does not accept such un-Islamic legislation and plans to launch a movement against these government measures.
The JUI chief expressed concern that the Islamic identity of the country is being undermined by legislation that contradicts the Quran and Sunnah. He remarked that democracy is losing its significance while anti-people laws are being enacted under the pretext of FATF and IMF requirements.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman mentioned that the relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan is essential, and both countries need each other. While he noted that the situation on the Afghan border is improving, he acknowledged the ongoing threat of aggression from India. He asserted that there is full confidence in Pakistan’s defence forces, and any Indian aggression would be met with a strong response.
Regarding global politics, Maulana Fazlur Rehman pointed out that the global power structure established after the events of 9/11 is ending. He indicated that the world is moving towards a new alignment, with China emerging as a significant global power. He predicted that, under China’s leadership, Asia is poised to become an economic powerhouse. Decisions must be made with modern requirements in mind.
Lastly, he announced that a major conference will be held in Hazara Division on June 29, where the future strategy will be determined.
