Indian actress and model Nausheen Ali Sardar has publicly alleged that she faced religious discrimination from renowned matchmaker Seema Taparia, best known from the Netflix show “Indian Matchmaking.”
The Mumbai-born actress, 43, revealed on a YouTube talk show that during the COVID-19 pandemic, she approached Taparia to find a life partner. Sardar stated that she was open to marrying into any community, including Catholic, Sikh, or Punjabi families.
However, she claims that Taparia flatly refused to take her on as a client, stating, “we cannot find a match for you because you are a Muslim.” Sardar called the incident extremely sad and stated that it challenges India’s claim to be a secular nation.
She expressed particular surprise at this refusal given that Taparia’s own family background is a mix of Punjabi and Iranian heritage.
