New projects in pipeline for Transgender Community in KP

KP finalises 177.52 billion development budget for 50 projects in 2025-26

PESHAWAR : Blue Veins Chairman Qamar Naseem and his team met with officials from the Directorate of Social Welfare, Special Education, and Women Empowerment to discuss the challenges faced by the transgender community and future initiatives for their welfare.

During the meeting, Naseem appreciated the efforts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and the Social Welfare Department but stressed the need for better awareness of these measures. He emphasized the importance of fully implementing government notifications and policies to ensure direct benefits for transgender individuals.

Director of Social Welfare Rafiq Khan Mohmand reiterated the department’s commitment to transgender welfare, stating that protecting their rights and ensuring socio-economic inclusion remained top priorities. He highlighted the provincial government’s practical steps, including upcoming projects aimed at improving opportunities for the community.

Ms. Salma Malik, the focal person for transgender affairs, was assigned special responsibilities, including monitoring ongoing projects and formulating a comprehensive strategy in collaboration with stakeholders. The strategy will focus on improving access to healthcare, education, employment, and legal aid for transgender persons.

Additionally, a provincial-level conference has been planned immediately after Eid, bringing together government departments, donors, and social organizations working for transgender welfare. The conference aims to devise a unified strategy, address key challenges, and introduce new welfare initiatives.

This meeting marks a significant step toward enhancing collaboration between government bodies, civil society, and donors to secure better opportunities for the transgender community in KP.
