ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has decided to hold an open auction for all 74 toll plazas operating across the country.
The auction will take place on June 19 at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, with the physical presence of bidders required to ensure transparency. According to private news channel Samaa, the decision has been taken under the direction of Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, who has emphasized that the auction process must be completely transparent and fair. “This is the first time the NHA is conducting an open auction for toll plazas, and it represents a major step towards increasing the Authority’s revenue. The benefits will directly contribute to both the NHA and the national treasury,” said the minister. To facilitate participants, the Minister has directed that all necessary facilities, including bank counters, be made available at the auction venue to prevent any inconvenience for the bidders. He also confirmed that advertisements have been published in the media to promote participation and public awareness of the auction.
The initiative is part of broader reform efforts within the NHA, aimed at increasing institutional efficiency and generating substantial revenue. Abdul Aleem Khan noted that the element of open competition will not only promote transparency but also open new avenues for institutional improvement. This move aligns with the government’s broader policy goals of increasing financial efficiency and accountability in public sector institutions through competitive and transparent processes.
