ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry clarified on Thursday that no new military operation is in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), emphasizing that security forces are only implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism.
Speaking to Samaa News about All Parties Conference (APC) in Peshawar, Chaudhry acknowledged that KP faces the highest terrorism threat in the country but criticized the provincial government for failing to strengthen counterterrorism institutions. “Without a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), forensic labs, or Safe City projects, how can terrorism be fought effectively?” he questioned.
The minister defended the federal government’s role, stating it is utilizing all resources to combat internal and external security threats under NAP. He urged KP’s leadership to take responsibility for law and order, alleging that while security forces are sacrificing lives, “the political leadership appears compromised and fearful of terrorists.”
Chaudhry also hit out at opposition parties, advising them to “focus on governance rather than criticizing federal ministers’ visits.” He warned against “political point-scoring” over security matters, stressing the need for unified efforts against terrorism.
