WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States (U.S.), Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, urged U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene in resolving the Kashmir dispute, warning it remains a potential nuclear flashpoint between India and Pakistan.
In an interview with a U.S. news channel, Sheikh expressed concern over India’s aggressive stance following the Pahalgam attack, cautioning that any escalation could lead to nuclear confrontation.
He pointed to recent border skirmishes and reiterated Pakistan’s call for an impartial investigation into the incident, questioning India’s tendency to deflect blame.
Sheikh also warned that any Indian move to block water flow would be treated as an act of war, stressing Pakistan’s preference for peace should not be seen as weakness.
Highlighting the regional risks, he warned that military misadventures could endanger over 1.5 billion people, calling on the global community to pursue a lasting resolution. Regarding the Pulwama incident, Sheikh noted India has failed to provide evidence despite Pakistan’s offer of cooperation. He emphasised that as a global power, the U.S. must ensure peace through sustained diplomatic efforts.
