Pakistan partially lifted restriction on social media platform X

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has partially lifted restrictions on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, restoring access for some users without the need for VPNs or proxy services.

Many users on X reported that their accounts were accessible without the use of VPNs or proxy services. The decision marks the end of months of state-imposed curbs that began shortly after the general elections in February 2024. Since then, millions of Pakistanis have had to rely on third-party tools to access the microblogging site. The move comes at a time of heightened military tensions with neighboring India. Earlier, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that Indian forces conducted airstrikes on six locations inside Pakistan, targeting Kotli, Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, and Muridke.
