KARACHI: Pakistan’s private energy company Cnergyico has announced it will import 1 million barrels of crude oil from the United States in October, marking a potential shift in the country’s energy supply chain.
The oil will be loaded from Houston, Texas, in the coming weeks and processed at a Pakistani refinery upon arrival. The deal was signed with Vitol, a major global energy trader, as a trial shipment to test commercial feasibility.
A Cnergyico spokesperson said if the trial proves successful, Pakistan could begin regular imports of US crude oil, helping diversify energy sources and stabilize fuel supplies. The move comes as Pakistan seeks to reduce reliance on traditional suppliers and mitigate price fluctuations in the global oil market.
This initiative could open new trade opportunities between Pakistan and the US while strengthening the country’s energy security. Experts say importing competitively priced US oil may help lower fuel costs in the long run.
