Peace in Afghanistan necessary for stability in Pakistan: KP CM Gandapur

CM Gandapur rejects Forced Repatriation of Afghan Refugees, Calls for Dignified Return

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has said peace in Afghanistan is necessary for stability in Pakistan.

While addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Friday, the KP chief minister said that the province will not forcibly expel any Afghan refugee, the provincial government has set up camps, and those who want to return voluntarily will be sent away with dignity.

He said that expelling Afghans from Pakistan without any comprehensive strategy is an abuse of them, and it is neither our policy nor tradition.

He clarified that our position regarding Afghan refugees is unequivocal: those who want to return will be welcomed, but the path of force will not be taken.

Ali Amin Gandapur said that we have provided Rs 30 billion to the police and CTD, and a new provincial action plan has been prepared, the positive results of which will be revealed soon.

He said that the provincial action plan is being formulated effectively, keeping in mind the mistakes of the past, so that the people stand with the institutions. In some recent incidents, the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stood with the police and fought the miscreants as a country.

We are taking steps to bridge the gap between our institutions and the people.

He also revealed that the federal government owes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs 2020 billion, while in the past, the share of Rs 1680 billion was reduced to only Rs 80 billion after Pervez Khattak’s deal. Now, if these amounts are not paid, the matter will be raised in the CCI and referred to the Supreme Court.

The Chief Minister said that until peace is established in Afghanistan, peace is not possible in this region. Pakistan officially participated in the war against Afghanistan, the effects of which we are now suffering. Now, if they have taken up arms, they should be dealt with not by force but by winning trust and hearts.

He said that we have prepared TORs for negotiations with the Afghan government, but despite the passage of three months, no response has been received. The federal government should take this issue seriously and put politics aside, and make decisions in the national interest.

In response to a question, he said that as the Chief Minister, he has the constitutional authority to meet weekly, and there is also a court order, despite this, he is not allowed to meet the founder of PTI. He said that Imran Khan has never refused negotiations, but no one will make a deal because the deal is for personal interests; negotiations can be made for the country.
