WAZIRISTAN: A militant was killed as police thwarted a terrorist attack on a police party escorting an anti-polio campaign team in the Lower Waziristan area.
According to a statement issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police office here on Monday, the Azam Warsak police station, Station House Officer (SHO), Alamgir Mehsood, came under a terrorist attack. However, they successfully thwarted the attack.
The statement said the terrorist was killed in the exchange of fire, while a police constable, Raza Mohammad, was also injured in the clash.
It said the incident occurred in the Lower Waziristan when the police party was escorting a polio team.
According to the police statement, the injured police constable was shifted to the hospital for treatment.
The inspector general of police (IG) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, appreciated the police official for thwarting the terror event and saving the police and public, especially the polio team, from a big loss.
KP has witnessed an uptick in terror incidents over the last two years after the expiry of the ceasefire between the militants and the government.
