ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a 180-day special remission in sentences for prisoners on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi(PBUH).
The remission was granted under Article 45 of the Constitution, in consultation and agreement with the Prime Minister.
The federal cabinet had recommended a 100-day remission, but after consultations, the President and Prime Minister extended it to 180 days.
The concession will apply only to prisoners who meet the legal criteria, while those convicted of murder, terrorism, espionage, and major financial crimes will remain ineligible.
