ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has formally designated Justice Sarfraz Dogar as the senior most judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and approved the permanent transfer of Justice Dogar along with two other judges.
The move follows a Supreme Court directive asking the matter of judges’ seniority to be referred to the President. Acting on the court’s instructions, President Zardari issued an official notification updating the IHC judges’ seniority list.
According to the revised list, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani is now the second most senior judge, followed by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb in third place.
The notification also confirmed that the transfers of Justice Khadim Hussain Tunio and Justice Muhammad Asif have been made permanent. Justice Tunio is now ranked 9th, while Justice Asif is 11th on the IHC seniority list.
It is noteworthy that five IHC judges had recently filed an intra-court appeal challenging the Supreme Court’s June 19 decision, which had upheld the legality of transferring the three judges to the IHC and dismissed the appeals filed by the five judges.
