PSL exhibition match at Arbab Niaz Stadium in doubt after PCB report

PSL exhibition match

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has encountered a major hurdle in its plans to revive international cricket in Peshawar after its inspection team raised serious concerns over the readiness of the Arbab Niaz Stadium. The venue was scheduled to host a Pakistan Super League (PSL) exhibition match on April 8, but due to inadequate facilities, the match may now be relocated to another city.

According to sources, the PCB had directed the relevant authorities to ensure all necessary arrangements were completed before Eid. However, the stadium’s condition fell short of expectations, particularly with the second-floor spectator area remaining unfinished. The concerned department reportedly conveyed its inability to complete the required work in time, casting doubt on Peshawar’s ability to host the match.

PCB officials are expected to make a final decision within the next two days, with strong indications that the exhibition match will be moved to an alternative venue. This development deals a significant blow to efforts aimed at restoring Peshawar’s status as a cricketing hub and has disappointed local fans who were eagerly anticipating high-profile cricket returning to the city.

The PCB had earlier announced that PSL 10 would commence at Arbab Niaz Stadium, with the April 8 exhibition match serving as a precursor. However, the latest setback raises questions about the feasibility of hosting future matches in Peshawar unless urgent upgrades are made to the stadium’s infrastructure.
