RAWALPINDI: The HBL Pakistan Super League PSL resumes today after a nine-day break with a high-stakes match between Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi and David Warner’s Karachi Kings at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The encounter marks a critical juncture in the tournament as teams battle for playoff spots.
Defending runners-up Multan Sultans have already been eliminated, leaving five teams competing for qualification. Quetta Gladiators currently lead the points table with 13 points, followed by Karachi Kings with 10. Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, and Peshawar Zalmi must secure victories to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The action continues with a double-header on Sunday, May 18, featuring Multan Sultans vs Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi vs Lahore Qalandars. Islamabad United will then face Karachi Kings in the final group match on May 19. The playoffs, including qualifiers and eliminators, will take place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from May 21 to 25, culminating in the grand finale.
In individual performances, Mohammad Rizwan tops the batting charts with 363 runs, earning the Hanif Mohammad Cap, followed by Sahibzada Farhan (321) and Fakhar Zaman (309). Among bowlers, Mohammad Abbas Afridi and Jason Holder share the Fazal Mahmood Cap with 15 wickets each. Peshawar Zalmi’s Muhammad Haris leads wicketkeepers with 10 catches and a stumping, while Quetta Gladiators’ Rayle Russo has taken the most fielding catches (11).
