PTA warns VPN firms: get licensed or risk service shutdown

PTA denies news about blocking YouTube channels

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted class licenses to three companies to legally operate Virtual Private Network (VPN) services in the country. In a statement on Thursday, the regulator warned all unlicensed VPN providers to immediately obtain the required permits or face action.

A PTA spokesperson emphasized that licensing aims to enforce regulatory standards, ensure transparency, and strengthen law enforcement oversight of VPN usage. The authority urged compliance to avoid service disruptions and guarantee users secure, uninterrupted access.

“Timely licensing will help companies maintain stable services while adhering to legal frameworks,” the spokesperson added.
