PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed on Thursday that he has resigned from four standing committees in the National Assembly (NA). This decision comes as PTI lawmakers are beginning to step down from their memberships and chairmanships of all standing committees following directives from party founder Imran Khan. This wave of resignations follows the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) disqualification of numerous PTI members and leaders due to their involvement in the riots on May 9, 2023, in response to Imran Khan’s arrest.
“I resigned from the committees based on the instructions of the PTI founder and the political committee,” Gohar stated in a phone interview. “I submitted my resignation to the speaker’s office and stepped down from the committees on law and justice, human rights, information technology, and the House Business Advisory Committee.”
Additionally, PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar announced his resignation from NA standing committees in a post on X, stating that he also submitted his resignations in accordance with the directives of the party founder and former prime minister.
