KHYBER: The Torkham border is likely to reopen after its closure for over three weeks, which was closed due to a clash between both countries’ forces over the construction of a post near the border.
After rounds of meetings of Jirga, members from Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a permanent ceasefire and open the Torkham trade crossing for all types of traffic.
A significant development came in on Monday from the Pak-Afghan Jirga talks on the Torkham border tension. According to the details, Pakistani Jirga member Jawad Hussain said that it has agreed to a permanent ceasefire and open the Torkham trade crossing for all types of traffic.
He said that the Jirga has agreed to close the controversial constructions of the Afghan forces temporarily, and the Afghan Jirga has sought time till this evening to close the controversial constructions.
The Pakistani Jirga member also said that the Afghan Jirga would take the Afghan authorities into confidence by this evening to close the controversial constructions, it is hoped that a positive response would be received from the Afghan side by this evening.
Jirga Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari and a 36-member delegation went to Torkham on the Afghan side on Monday.
Today is the twenty-fourth day of the closure of the Pak-Afghan Torkham border.
