Treasury and accountant general steals our 40 Billion, says Ahmad Karim Kundi

The member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Ahmad Karim Kundi, has accused the treasury and the accountant general of embezzling Rs 40 billion in Kohistan.

He made these allegations during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by PAC Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, with committee members present.

Kundi strongly criticised the Chief Minister’s advisor on finance, Muzamil Aslam, urging him to resign over the massive corruption scandal.

The MPA also questioned the government’s poor oversight and audit practices over the past five years, which, he argued, allowed such massive corruption to take place. He claimed that the corruption has spread throughout the province, with Kohistan chosen for its remoteness and lack of effective monitoring.

“The supervision and responsibility of public funds fall under the Finance Department,” Kundi emphasised.

In response to Kundi’s questions, the Secretary of Finance acknowledged that monitoring the accounts is indeed their responsibility.

Ibadullah Khan, the opposition leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, also called for accountability, stating that the departments involved in the scandal must be held responsible.
