ABBOTTABAD: Residents of Abbottabad have expressed severe concern over the growing pollution in the area, accusing the local government and WASSCA of not removing the garbage from the surrounding streets, which causes different diseases.
Hamdullah Khan a local journalist told Pakhtun Digital that the staff deputed for this purpose are taking salaries at their homes and they are not aware of this situation in the city. He said that the area where the heap of garbage seen are very near to the government girls degree college and other departments of local government.
He said that the concern staff not taking interest in the cleanliness drive that is why the environment in Abbottabad getting worse with each passing day. He said that these garbage causes disease in the local community which is a matter of grave concern for the people of the city.
Another person, without mentioning his name, told Pakhtun Digital that the water and sanitation services are not an active department of Abbottabad, and they are taking huge salaries from the national exchequer, but their work is unsatisfactory.
He said that if attention was not paid to this situation, the environment would be put in an extremely vulnerable position. He was astonished at what the responsibility of the local government and WASSA is, who are taking salaries for this purpose.
It is to mentioned here that in the first term of PTI government different companies were established for the cleanliness and sanitation services of different cities like Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mardan, Mingora and Kohat and huge funds were allocated in the budget for their salaries and incentives but unfortunately these employees are taking reward only for sleeping in their homes.
