PESHAWAR: Opposition Leader Dr. Ibadullah has strongly criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for its massive expenditures, including Rs 110 million spent on biscuits and a 300% increase in the Chief Minister’s tea budget, which was previously set at Rs 35 million.
Speaking to Pakhtun Digital, Dr. Ibadullah expressed concerns over the rising costs of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, which has reportedly spent Rs 1.6 billion, setting a “world record” in government expenses. He questioned the government’s austerity measures, asking, “Where has the austerity campaign gone?”
Dr. Ibadullah also accused the previous PTI-led government of corruption, naming former CMs Pervez Khattak and Mahmood Khan. He warned that the current Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, would also face allegations of mismanagement. “Mark my words, this Gandapur will also become a lota (turncoat),” he said.
Referring to Imran Khan’s removal from power, he quoted the PTI founder’s sister, who reportedly said, “Imran Khan has been removed from the KP government.” When questioned about financial accountability, Dr. Ibadullah claimed the government responds by saying, “Don’t ask us about the lotas (turncoats).”
The opposition leader’s remarks have intensified political tensions in KP, with demands for transparency in government spending.
