Meteorological experts reveal cause of recent Karachi earthquakes

The director of Pakistan's Seismological Center, Dr. Najeeb Ahmed, has confirmed an active fault line near Rawat is causing frequent minor earthquakes in the area. His comments came after tremors were felt across Islamabad, Chakwal, and surrounding regions.

KARACHI: Karachi residents should prepare for more earthquake tremors in the coming days, warns Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider. His alert follows multiple recent quakes, including a 3.6 magnitude tremor near Quaidabad and a 3.2 magnitude event near Gadap Town overnight.

Haider confirmed these shakes originate from Karachi’s active Landhi fault line – which hasn’t caused major quakes historically – and another nearby fault near Bola Khan. He explained the ongoing “moderate intensity” tremors result from shifting fault lines, similar to movements along the Kirthar region’s boundary.

“These fault lines need days to stabilize,” Haider stated, indicating further tremors are likely. He urged citizens to stay alert but reassured that no destructive earthquakes are expected from these particular faults.
