BANNU: A policeman was martyred when unknown motorcyclists opened fire on him in the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station of Bannu district on Monday morning.
Police say that the Policeman, identified as Arman was MTO constable at the Cantt Police Station. He was on his way to the police station for duty unknown motorcyclists intercepted him and opened fire on him near Tappi Kala.
As a result, he died on the spot. The attackers drove off after committing the crime.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to track down the attackers.
No group has claimed responsibilities for the attack yet.
On Saturday, unidentified armed men launched attacks on multiple police posts and stations early hours of Saturday morning, using hand grenades and gunfire.
The assaults targeted the Khojri police post, as well as the Ghoriwala and Bakakhel police stations.
According to police, the attackers, riding motorcycles, threw two hand grenades at the Khojri police post and opened fire.
However, no casualties were reported in the attacks.
Following the assault on the Khojri post, local village elders armed themselves and joined forces with police to protect the post.
Residents and police officers together chanted slogans in support of the police.

The attackers fled the scenes after facing strong retaliation from law enforcement.
Investigations into the incidents are ongoing, and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
